Memphis Colleges (continued from top)

If you're considering a Memphis college, but you're afraid that every time your professors head off after lecture they'll feel compelled to say 'Elvis has left the building,' don't worry. It won't happen. While the King's legacy is alive and well in Memphis, there's a lot more to this thriving Tennessee city.

For starters, Memphis is rich with educational opportunities (not that Graceland isn't an educational opportunity. No true music lover could ever say such a thing). With museums like the National Civil Rights Museum and the Slave Haven Underground Railroad Museum, you'll have access to up-close encounters with some of America's most important history. Then there are the city's libraries, fine arts shows and galleries, musical performances, and theaters. And like any thriving urban area, Memphis has attracted its fair share of scholars and artists, so that choosing to earn your degree at a Memphis university can mean choosing to work with one of the leaders in your field.

Memphis is more than just a town to get smart in, though. It's also a town to have a great time in. Let's say you're a Memphis college student faced with a midterm you just can help but procrastinate studying for. Two words: Beal Street. Memphis's hopping historic downtown features live music every night of the week, great restaurants, terrific shopping, and more fun than a studious soul like you ought to be having on a school night.

If you're thinking about studying at a Memphis university, you're showing you smarts already!
